The Tuck?

A site dedicated to an annual reunion of former Loughborough Students and associates (from the Holt hall of residence). Running since the group graduated (or dropped out) in 1999 the Annual Tuck is a chance to meet old friends and chew the fat over a couple of beers.

The Tuck: A Definition
The definition of The Tuck: To consume (food and drink) heartily.

The Tuck derives from a saying among The Tuckees whilst at University. It was originally defined as a day out: a jolly or beano. It has gone on to describe a full weekend of jolliness and sharing stories with friends. The Tuck now conjures up images of a good weekend away, enjoying the sights, sounds, tastes and culture of a European city. Tuck In!

The Tuck: A history
Meeting predominantly in the May Bank Holiday, a Tuck Venue is decided in the preceding January and in the intervening months this is chopped and changed before everyone's happy with the Committee's decision.

The first venue of the Tuck was Cambridge (May 1999) before heading North in the year 2000 and the city of Manchester. Following on from that success the bandwagon hit Bournemouth in 2001. But following an abysmal event the following year in Nottingham (in bed by 10pm springs to mind), serious changes needed to be made.

In 2003 it was time to make drastic decisions and Rome changed the face of The Tuck forever. With such a roaring success it was decided that The Tuck needed a Continental flavour and in May 2004 Eurostar and Paris provided the perfect follow-up to the Italian capital.

In 2005 The Tuck yet again took a new twist: the first ever four day event and two cities in one weekend, Copenhagen and Malmo. In 2006 the venue was Madrid and yet again the chaps enjoyed another feast of fun, debauchery and good old fashioned hilarity in the Spanish capital.

In 2007 The Tuck moved to Bavaria as Munich hosted Tuck IX. In July 2008 The Tuck celebrated its 10th birthday in Lisbon where the boys toasted 13 years of comradeship. The Tuck reverted back to its traditional May Bank Holiday date in 2009 when the Finnish capital, Helsinki, hosted the eleventh Tuck.

Tuck XII took the boys to Antwerp and the self-proclaimed 'All Stars' of Bosnian, Curran, Staggsy and Stokie enjoyed the event in the Belgian city. For the thirteenth edition of the event The Tuck visited Gdansk in Northern Poland and Bosnian and Stokie made sure it was the longest Tuck in history by staying longer than expected.

Tuck XIV took the party to Amsterdam for a fantastic weekend which combined Euro 2012 and the infamous Tuck hospitality. In 2013, The Tuck celebrated 15 years of comradeship in Berlin. For the sixteenth version of the event The Tuckees headed to Geneva for another great weekend.

In 2015, the Tuckees headed as far east as they have ever been before with Athens hosting another fabulous event. 2016 saw the Tuckees 'go east' again as they visited Sofia, Bulgaria for the eighteenth edition of this mighty tradition. Tuck XIX saw the party come closer to home, with Luxembourg hosting yet another fantastic event. 2018 took The Tuck to the Iberian peninsula again, this time to Porto. In 2019 the Tuck visited Stockholm, but the 2020 Tuck to Krakow was postponed twice due to the Coronavirus. In its place was the first domestic Tuck for 18 years. Bang in the middle of all Tuckees hometown's, Crick in Northamptonshire, widely considered as the best Tuck held in Britain.

‘The virus’ put paid to another continental event in 2021, with the Cotswold town of Charlbury hosting the 23rd Tuck, which saw the first five-man Tuck in ten years, when Benno ended his twenty-year hiatus from the event.

The Tuck returned to its first foreign event in three years in 2022. Krakow hosted the first three-man Tuck when Curran pulled out: citing Poland as a 'war zone' behind his reasoning. But Curran returned to the fray in 2023 when the boys headed further East with Bucharest hosting the 25th anniversary of The Tuck. The event returned to France via Eurostar in 2024 with a glorious Tuck in Lille.
